Speaker Sizes
Im sure this has been asked many times before, and I dug it up thru searching once, but it took like 45 minutes. So I'm just going to ask, and hope that someone will tell me!
I have a 1994 ES (is that a 1st gen?) 3.3L
I want to know what the factory size speaker sizes are. If there is somthing else that fits I just want to know about them if I dont have to modify stuff to get them in there.
I know the back is 6x9s... but are the front ones 6 1/2s or 5 1/4s?
and are there speakers in the front dash too? It looks like there may be 3 of them, wich wouldent really make sense...
someone please tell me!

the doors are 5 1/4s and there are 2 3.5s in the dash. There isn't a speaker under the middle grill.

is there like a place for a speaker in the middle spot?
I had an idea of putting a 8in sub in there maybe...
could anyone please tell me the best Alpine speakers I could use to replace the factorys?
oh oh and Im trying to figure out this i-Personalise crap for my HU and it makes no damn sense... I understand what its supposed to do, but I have no idea how to set anything on the web site, or the unit itself. has anyone done this? I have the alpine 9815 cd/mp3/wma player... nice but very confusing!!!
btw - thanks johnnyko12

The infinity premium stereo has a center channel speaker there. But im not sure on the size. As for as the best alpines to replace, if you want to shell out 3800 per door get the alpine F1 status components. The type S is the entry level components with the type r above them, and then the type x which is the step below the F1 status. If your planning on replacing your stock speakers, I as well as many other members im sure agree that you should go with a set of components as they sound much better than coax's. First though you need to set a price range on what your looking to do and then the suggestions can follow.

well I had the 6.5s with the tweeter in my last car (01 Civic) and wne I got speakers for that it was extra $$$, and since this car does not have a place for them it would have to be custom and I dont want to have stuff cut or glued or anything.
I have noticed that, based on the speaker sizes for the car, you cant get all type Rs or whatever. I cant remember exactly, but I think you can only get the 6x9s in them, but the rest is types S... somthing like that. after looking at all the #s of watts and RMS I get confused and kind of give up.
would there be room to put a 8 inch sub in the center speaker spot? Im sure it would have to be somewhat custom, and I know everything is possible with money - Im just wondering if it would be reasonable.
oh, and does anyone know about that i-Personalise thing???

8 in. sub in the dash? That would be a huge custom job, ripping apart your dash and what not trying to mount it and then run wires. Give up like i did and just go with a 12 in the trunk.

Ive got 2 10s Im going to put in the trunk....
but I just had an idea - what if I got the componets and put the tweeters in where the 3 1/2s are...? would that still sounds good, or suppose its better to keep them the same?

Ahh a member from Des Moines, IA. I'm originally from there, moved to Austin 5 years ago. Nice to see someone from there on here.
A set of components up front will greatly improve your sound quality assuming you pair them with a good amp. Most headunits just don't have enough power to make the most of a set of components. You'll also want to keep the tweeter down in the door with the mid range driver. Forget about the dash locations for anything. They are in a really poor location...

You can fit the tweeters down in the door next to the mid speakers. How you do it depends on how much work you want to do though...

You mean down in the doors? It's not as good as if you were to fabricate custom kick panels, but the lower door area is 100x better than up in the dash...

ok ok, maybe im not asking correctly, or maybe I am and just - well anyways..... let me restate it again:
Would it be better to get the speakers with the seperate tweeters (componets-?) and just put it all down in the normal door speaker position, or should I just get regular replacement door speakers?
Im going to get new dash speakers either way.

If you're going to replace the dash speakers then don't waste your time or money on component door speakers...
